Welcome To Suhot Spring Resort of Dumalag Capiz

History of Suhot Spring Resort...Suhot Cave, Dumalag. Situated in Dumalag, Capiz and only 300 meters away from the provincial road. It is actually a series of interconnected caverns of different sizes. At the cave's arched entrance is a pool of clear, ice-cold water fed by a rock spring from within the cave. Further on, however, is a crack in the rocks where sulfurous water comes out. Suhot is believed to have a connecting tunnel to the Badiang Cave, Dumarao since both caves are found in the same mountain only 6 km apart from each other although Badiang is on a higher elevation. On the other hand, entrance to Badiang is hidden by dense jungle. In pre-war days, phosphate was said to have been extracted from the cave but it was a short-lived effort.Read More

How Dumalag Got Its Name?

There were actually several versions regarding the origin of the name of the town, but the most authentic was the incident arising from a misunderstanding between a native fisherman and a Spanish conquistador whose duty was to inquire about the name of every new place he was able to reach.    On the northern part of the present site of the Poblacion, there was a creek (now called Agtabas) were thick trees grow along its banks. It was a rich fishing ground for fresh water fish. During summer, the dead leaves of the trees that fell on the water made the water yellow ("Dalag in dialect"). One morning, while a fisherman was fishing, his wife arrived to pry,her husband reasoned out the he could not very well locate the hiding places of the fish because the water had turned yellow.("Dumalag" in the dialect). Just then, the Spanish conquistador arrived at the place, and thinking of his mission, asked for the name of the place in Spanish."Come Se llama este sitio?" The fisherman believing that the strangers asked the same question that his wife had earlier asked answered "Dumalag". And so,the conquistador named this town "Dumalag"and this name was later given official recognition by the government.
